The main suggestions for wearing this as pictured in the listing give this balaclava nice flexibility based on how cold the weather is. I like the option for the fleece around your neck but the lighter spandex for over your face! I think that's how's I'll be using this the most during ski season. There are a couple more options not listed that I wanted to note: if you pull the drawstring tight and tuck the cord inside then fold the lighter side inward, it makes a great winter hat. Then, if you happen to have long hair, you can leave that drawstring open just a bit and thread your ponytail through. This will be a great option for winter running and snowshoeing. Definitely a good choice for winter sports!
